The Haciendas | Yucatan | Mexico
Colonial charm meets 21st century luxury in this collection of five exquisitely restored haciendas in Mexico’s Mayan heartland. Close to many of the region’s most impressive Mayan sites as well as the beaches of the Mayan Riviera, a visit to Mexico just isn’t complete without a few days spent hacienda hopping around the Yucatan.
- Hacienda Temozon
- Hacienda San Jose
- Hacienda Santa Rosa
- Hacienda Uayamon
- Hacidenda Puerta Campeche
Perfect for… hacienda hoppers on the Mayan trail.
Where… dotted throughout the Yucatan Peninsula, close to colonial cities Merida and Campeche and to many Mayan sites including Chichén Itzá and Uxmal.
And the rooms… each hacienda is small and boutique (Hacienda Temozon is the largest with 28 rooms) and rooms and suites have been lovingly decorated in keeping with their Spanish colonial past. Think high ceilings with exposed beams, wooden double doors, cool tiled floors, enormous iron beds, private plunge pools (in some suites), and, of course, a hammock on the terrace for wiling away sultry Yucatan afternoons.
Food and facilities… dining at The Haciendas is a special experience in atmospheric restaurants cooled by ceiling fans, serving delicious food that combines the best of Yucatan cuisine with European and Mexican favourites. Private candlelit dinners can be arranged for added romance. Each hacienda has a swimming pool, spa, library and beautiful gardens. Hacienda Temozon also has a tennis court.
Activities… our private guides can take you to visit the nearby Mayan sites and colonial towns or hire a car and explore independently. Have a swim in one of the many cenotes (sink holes), see the Yucatan countryside from horseback or mountain bike and then indulge in a massage at one of the haciendas’ fabulous spas.
In the know… Campeche often gets overlooked in the race to visit Merida, Chichén Itzá and Uxmal, but this sleepy Mexican town and UNESCO World Heritage Site is well worth a look in, as are its nearby Mayan sites. Stay in town at Hacienda Puerta Campeche or head to the beautiful Hacienda Uayamon – Lucy’s favourite.
