Pestana Convento do Carmo | Salvador | Brazil
Historic, luxurious and with oodles of character, Convento do Carmo comes pretty high on our list of favourite places in Brazil. This restored convent steeped in history right in the heart of Salvdor makes the perfect base for exploring the city.
Perfect for… just about everybody looking to spend a few nights in Salvador to soak up its colonial charm.
Where… in the heart of Salvdor’s historic Pelourinho district, capital of Bahia in northeast Brazil.
And the rooms… 79 rooms (including 11 suites) are large, tastefully and elegantly decorated and you’ll be more comfortable than the nuns were who lived here up until 2001 with decidely unholy flat screen televisions, air-conditioning and pillow menus.
Food & facilities…the charming, sophisticated restaurant is housed in a beautiful room, serving traditional Portuguese cuisine and with an extensive wine list. The pool set in lovely gardens with gazebos is the perfect oasis of calm in the city after a day’s sightseeing, there’s also a spa, sauna and fitness centre to keep you in tip top condition.
In the know… Salvador is alive with music – make sure you head out onto the streets on Tuesday evenings to watch the famous Olodum samba band practice.
