La Residencia | Deia | Mallorca

When Orient Express bought the two 16th and 17th century manor houses (as well as a couple of newer buildings) in the Deia hills from Sir Richard Branson six years ago, they went to town on a massive refurbishment, adding a new spa and sumptuous suites. The result is an award-winning luxury hotel that oozes character and we simply love it.

Perfect for… those times you just want to escape to the hills for peace and seclusion in luxurious surroundings.

Where… in the village of Deia, tucked into the foothills of the Sierra Tramuntana on the island's northwest coast and a stone’s throw away from the clear blue Mediterranean.

And the rooms… the 67 rooms and suites are simple and stylish, decorated with Mallorquin antiques, four-poster beds with private balconies, and wooden shuttered windows that open to reveal stunning garden views. Treat yourself to a suite and enjoy a private pool or garden.

Food and facilities… El Olivo restaurant is renowned for its fabulous food or there’s the more informal Son Fony restaurant. The property has two outdoor pools, one indoor, two tennis courts as well as a spa, Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, gym and indoor pool.

Activities…  hire a mountain bike, or try the yoga, tai-chi or aqua-aerobics lessons.  A shuttle will take you to the beach just 3km away.

In the know… pop in to town one evening for a meal.  Deia has some excellent restaurants and for gastros, dine at the Michelin star Es Racó d’est Teix - booking is essential.
