Explorean Kohunlich | Yucatan | Mexico
Culture and nature are rolled-into-one at Explorean Kohunlich, a beautiful jungle resort located a within a Mayan archaeological area. Spend days discovering little-visited Mayan sites deep in the rainforest or kayaking through serene lagoons before heading back to your comfortable thatched cottage for peaceful nights in the Mexican jungle.
Perfect for… nature lovers on the Mayan trail looking to get off the beaten track.
Where… in the south of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, close to the Belizean border and about four hours’ drive south of Cancun.
And the rooms… each of the 40 thatched (and air-conditioned) cottages is spacious and comfortable with a porch complete with a hammock for lazing away the afternoons. There are no televisions, but then we’d be disappointed if there were. Your morning wake up call consists of rainforest birdsong, coffee and pastries delivered to your room at 7.30am.
Food and facilities… the main restaurant offers a small menu each evening with Mexican and international dishes, and you can have lunch by the small infinity swimming pool with lovely views over the jungle. House wine and spirits are included and you can simply help yourself to drinks from the bar. There’s also a small spa offering treatments so you can unwind after a day’s exploring.
Activities… Explorean has a schedule of activities running each day and one activity per day is included in your stay. This could range from a morning cycling tour to the nearby Mayan site Kohunlich to a kayaking trip on the nearby lagoon. All activities will take place in a small group led by excellent English speaking guides.
In the know… check out one of the view colonial ruins in the Yucatan, Chichan-Ha, formerly a 16th century Franciscan convent and now a fantastic place to take your mountain bike and explore.
