Land-locked Zambia is dominated by its namesake, the Zambezi, at its most spectacular as it plunges over the widest falls in the world. Often dubbed 'the real Africa', Zambia's sparse population and relatively few tourists make for an exciting safari into the wilds. Adventurous types should try one of the excellent walking safaris here, for a heart-thumping wildlife experience that soon becomes addictive. Meanwhile, you can take things slowly on the Lower Zambezi as you safari by canoe, fish and relax in some sublime luxury lodges.
 

Victoria Falls
Vic Falls are known as Mosi-oa-Tunya or ‘the smoke that thunders’ and we can’t come up with a more accurate description. Simply spectacular and best seen from a microlite.
Lower Zambezi
Crocs share these waters with hippos, swimming elephants and plenty of birds for all you twitchers. Excellent fishing here and glorious sunsets best enjoyed with a cold beer.
South Luangwa
Tired of bumping around in a 4x4? Then it’s about time you tried a walking safari in the South Luangwa National Park. Wild and vastly untouched, encounters on foot with leopard, giraffe, elephant, lion and hippo are guaranteed to get the adrenaline flowing.
Kafue National Park
A vast, watery wilderness about the size of Wales, Kafue offers splendid wildlife viewing with a huge variety of animals from leopard and cheetah to huge herds of antelope splashing about in the shallows. Birdwatchers take note: over 400 species have been recorded here.
