| | | | Jack's Camp | | Jack’s Camp is located deep in the Kalahari Desert on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans, the largest saltpans in the world. The camp creates an oasis of civilisation in what is considered to be one of the harshest environments on Earth.
Jack's is furnished in a traditional East African 1940s style. There are 10 spacious, walk-in tents, each with en-suite private showers (indoor and out), washbasin and flush toilet, and lots of thoughtful touches. These tents are spread out on an island of palm trees, with a dining tent and a Persian-style 'tea tent', which comes complete with local artefacts, comfy cushions and rugs.
In an area known for its large herds of wildebeest, zebra and springbok, and the accompanying predators, game drives on 'the Pans' can be remarkably rewarding for such an arid landscape. Other activities include walking with the bushmen and visiting a group of habituated Meerkats with whom you can have some exceptionally close interaction. In the dry winter months, quad bikes are available, allowing guests to travel at high speeds across the saltpans while the summer rains leave a warm shallow layer of water that entices waterfowl and flamingos onto the saltpans.
