| | | | Chan Kah | | Surrounded by dense forests and frequently shrouded in mist, the Palenque ruins are among the most aesthetically impressive in Mesoamerica. The Mayan city is throught to have spread over nearly 8 square miles, though to date only a tenth of the area has been excavated.
Chan-Kah is a rustic jungle resort located right at the entrance to the site. Its 70 rooms and suites are bright and airy and there are 4 swimming pools in beautifully landscaped gardens. A visit to Palenque combines particularly well with the colonial town of San Cristobal de las Casas, and a stop at the series of pools, waterfalls and rapids of Agua Azul make for a refreshing break en route.
