If stone-baked pizza, sushi, tapas and freshly caught sea-food don’t tempt you, then the chefs will be happy to knock you up a Pad Thai, spicy papaya salad, or whatever you fancy. During the day, you’ll be brought complimentary smoothies and other goodies by the pool, and you can also help yourself to ice-creams. Anyone on a health-kick will be in heaven too, propping up Tonic bar with a superfood shot, or tucking in to sushi salad rolls, and green tea noodles.
Unlike some of the beaches on the island, W Beach doesn’t have the jagged corals and rocks so it’s perfect for snorkelling, kayaking, and having a go on the banana boats. There’s also a large pool, tennis, Thai boxing and yoga to keep you happy at the resort, but if you want to head further afield, you can take a tuck-tuck to the romantic coves of Fisherman’s Village. Nearby Chaweng is fairly touristy, but the hilly route down is always an experience – dodging cows as they amble across the road, and passing tiny tots on the backs of motorbikes! For nature lovers the island is home to some magical waterfalls, and there’s also a towering Buddha statue.
If you love the glow of Chinese lanterns, and vibrancy of full-moon parties, then the bars at W Retreat Koh Samui are the best place to be. Watch the sun go down as you sit in the sunken lounging areas in the pool, and wait for the fire-breathers, dancers and DJ to come out to play.
