Anyone craving an overdose of fresh air and open spaces.
In a 4000 acre estate outside Jose Ignacio, Uruguay.
Estancia Vik has twelve enormous, modern private suites, located across two wings of the colonial style, whitewashed hacienda. Each is different, and each features paintings and sculptures commissioned from a celebrated, avant-garde Uruguayan artist. All rooms allow you to walk out onto the patio, and the larger Master Suites have outdoor patio showers too.
The estancia’s dining room is suspended as though in space above a magnificent vaulted wine cellar. There’s also a traditional Uruguayan fogon, or barbeque hut, given a modern twist with contemporary murals. The dishes on offer are a representation of the best of Uruguayan cuisine, from pastries and pizzas made in a clay oven to fresh seafood and local fruit and veg. The estate has a swimming pool made from dark granite, a spa and even a private polo stables.
Take to a horse, a mountain bike, or a kayak to explore the countryside that surrounds the estancia on all sides – and then cool off on the private beach. Golf, tennis and sailing are also on offer, or you can simply put on your hiking boots and set off into the wide green landscape. Windsurfing, kitesurfing and fishing can be done on the neighbouring lagoon
There’s a sweetly romantic church on the grounds of the hotel for those thinking of planning a wedding or a renewal of vows in this beautiful, unique place.
