Nature lovers on the Mayan trail looking to get off the beaten track and away from the pace of modern living.
Explorean Kohunlich is nestled deep in the jungle in the south of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, close to the Belizean border and about four hours’ drive south of Cancun.
The 40 thatched bunglows and cabanas combine clean modern decor with touches of local colour and has its own outdoor sitting area and hammock for lazing away the afternoons (if you find the time!). There are no televisions at Explorean Kohunlich, but with the constant buzz of nature right in front of you there's no need. Your morning wake up call consists of rainforest birdsong, coffee and pastries delivered to your room at 7.30am.
The main restaurant at Explorean Kohunlich offers a small menu each evening with Mexican and international dishes, and you can have lunch by the small infinity swimming pool with lovely views over the jungle. House wine and spirits are included and you can simply help yourself to drinks from the bar. There’s also a small spa offering treatments so you can unwind after a day’s exploring.
Explorean Kohunlich has a daily schedule of activities to choose from and one activity per day is included in your stay. This could range from a morning cycling tour to the nearby Mayan site Kohunlich to a kayaking or catamaran trip on the beautiful Lagoon of Seven Colours or even abseiling. All activities take place in a small group led by excellent English speaking guides.
Take the evening kayak trip for a chance to see incredible wildlife coming home to roost and if you're lucky you may glimpse a small Moreleti crocodile.
