Couples and honeymooners seeking a romantic break – with fantastic marine life for divers and snorkellers. Children are also extremely well catered for at Victoria House and the recently built villas accommodate families perfectly.
Victoria House hotel is located on Ambergris Caye, a 25 mile long island spanning Belize’s famous barrier reef. A 15 minute flight from the mainland to the sleepy town of San Pedro, followed by a 10-minute golf cart transfer to the hotel.
The 42 rooms range from romantic stand-alone thatched casitas to deluxe suites with a shared infinity pool and two to five bedroom family-orientated villas. Whilst some are set further back from the white sandy beach amongst the lush tropical gardens, all offer stunning beach views.
There are three different dining options available to guests. Palmilla is the most formal at Victoria House and is a well-known spot on the island. For something more low-key you can eat al fresco on the poolside patio or alternatively head to the Belizian-style Admiral Nelson’s Beach Bar for a cold beer and early evening snack. Only metres from the water's edge and pier it is a prime spot to watch divers and fishermen return with their catch.
You are spoiled for choice at Victoria House. For diving enthusiasts visiting the barrier reef and the enigmatic Blue Hole is a must. Non-divers can enjoy the spectacular snorkelling at Shark Ray Alley and with flats perfect for bonefish, fly fishers will be in heaven. Otherwise take a trip to the mainland to visit some of the spectacular Mayan ruins or try cave tubing for something completely different!
Definitely rent a golf cart – even if it’s not for the entire stay then a day exploring the island and stopping off at local Belizean restaurants and bars is a must.
