Luxury Botswana Holidays and Safaris

Botswana is the undisputed king of safaris, and whether it’s a luxury honeymoon or a once in a lifetime safari holiday, it promises a privileged wilderness adventure.

In Botswana’s heavily protected reserves, you’ll never pass more than one other safari vehicle, which means un-interrupted encounters with some of the most spectacular game in Africa.

Botswana is also known for its stunningly diverse landscapes, so having awoken to bellowing hippo in the Okavango Delta, you can take a canoe safari along the spillways of Linyanti, Kwando, and Selinda; visit predator-central Chobe, and then head to the arid Makgadikgadi Pans for a safari holiday rich in contrast.

Okavango Delta Thumb

Okavango Delta

A luxury safari in the Okavango Delta is like stepping into a Henri Rousseau painting: a magical, exotic, almost surreal wildlife paradise, home to thousands of birds and animals. Hop into a traditional mokoro canoe and immerse yourself in the sound of belching bull-frogs as your guide navigates through the labyrinth of waterways. As for larger residents, including numerous hippo lurking in the papyrus swamps, you may prefer to encounter them atop a pontoon style boat.

Moremi game Reserve Thumb

Moremi Game Reserve

An island-haven in the middle of the Okavango Delta, Moremi has some of the richest ecosystems in Africa, many of which are dominated by cathedral-like forests. The Big Five can be spotted here – an experience that feels even more privileged following the successful reintroduction of the black rhino – whilst Birders will be in paradise amongst the wattled crane and Bradfields hornbill of the floodplains.

Chobe National Park Thumb

Chobe National Park

With the sweeping savannah of the northern Kalahari as a stage, Chobe National Park is classic big-game country where buffalo, elephant, and exceptionally large prides of lion have the leading roles. If, however, you prefer drama to be played out slowly, how about an unforgettable safari cruise aboard the Zambezi Queen? Following the mighty Chobe River from Namibia to Botswana, prepare for a wildlife epic like no other. And the finale? The ‘thundering smoke’ of the Victoria Falls, just a few hours’ drive across the border with Zambia.

Linyanti, Kwando, and Selinda

The waterways of the Kwando and Linyanti rivers are havens for a cacophony of birds and wildlife, including migrating elephant and buffalo which gather in their thousands. By night these concessions are equally exciting, whether it’s spotting leopard on game-drives, or heading into the lush forested areas in search of the inquisitive honey badger. As for the Selinda concession, its grassy open plains are one of the best places to see packs of wild dog.

Makgadikgadi Pans Thumb

Makgadikgadi Pans

Feel as if you're walking on the moon in this vast, eerie, saltpan wilderness deep in the Kalari Desert. During the rains, the Makgadikgadi pans are filled with huge herds of zebra, wildebeest, and other wildlife whilst dry season sees you quad biking across an endless expanse of silver salt. Don’t rely on our description though – meet the incredible Bushmen who stride across the pans each day, and discover how they live in this inhospitable environment. And where should you stay when you’re here? It's got to be Jack’s Camp.

Central Kalahari Game Reserve Thumb

Central Kalahari Game Reserve

A vast swathe of sand, dotted with sparse scrub and the fossilised remains of a long forgotten river-bed: it’s easy to conjure an image of the Kalahari desert, but the unforgiving temperament of the dry season has to be experienced first-hand. Having gazed out at endless horizons, and wandered in the harshest of environments, you’ll marvel at the scant wildlife that has evolved to survive it. This includes solitary black-maned lions, ostrich, and meerkats – the latter characters not only dwelling here but making it look like a veritable playground!
